Statement of Commitment Against Racism
We, the undersigned members and friends of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, are aggrieved by the systemic racism of our nation, so recently and horrifically exemplified by the murder of George Floyd. So many of our black and brown brothers and sisters have been killed by white people, for centuries. It goes on. Enough is enough.
To the extent that we have all been complicit in the sin of racism by the safety afforded by our whiteness, by our silence, inaction, and our fear, we stand convicted and commit to be better. We stand with our black brothers and sisters in the quest for real justice. God loves us all. We are all equal in the eyes of Jesus Christ.
To that end, we recommit to the love of God and neighbor, and pledge to do all that we can to end this scourge of hatred, killing, and discrimination against our brothers and sisters of color. Amen.
